How are things? We're glad that you're ready to begin work. Here are some ideas on how to get started:
Read up and become informed on the issues. Head into your local library. If you want, we can send you a bibliography and some informational material for the cost of xerox and mailing, around $5.00.
You might want to get together with a small group of kids who would be interested in working with you. If so, talk to them, plan a meeting and share your ideas. You could develop a kind of Kids' Panel and go out speaking together on local tv and radio talk shows. Or you could plan some events that draw attention to kids' needs, and how people can help and send out press releases asking the media to attend.
Think about what you would like people to know and the best way to let them know it. You might want to first show or tell about how hard things are for kids in your community, in other communities, and in every country of the world, about how the United Nations Convention can help kids, and what people can do to help kids today and to help ratify and enforce the UN Convention. That's one way to go about it but you might have very different ideas. It's important that you say what you have to say in your own way.
When you have a really good idea of what you'd like to do, bounce it off your friends, your family, your favorite teachers or group leaders. Make plans and get organized. We'll be glad to help you.
