Dear Kids Who Are Interested In
Carrying Petitions About Kids' Needs And Rights and
The United Nations Convention on The Rights of the Child:

How are things? We're glad that you're ready to begin work. Here are some ideas on how to get started:

  1. Read up and become informed on the issues. Head into your local library. If you want, we can send you a bibliography and some informational material for the cost of zerox and mailing, around $5.00.

  2. You might want to get together with a small group of kids who would be interested in working with you. If so, talk to them, plan a meeting and share your ideas on how you would like to go about petitioning. Do you want to work in your school, in your neighborhoods, or with local youth groups?

  3. We have enclosed a petition that you might want to copy and use, or you might want to write your own.

  4. Think about what you would like to say to people when you are asking them to sign your petition. You might want to first speak about how hard things are for kids in every country of the world, about how the United Nations convention can help kids, and what people can do to help ratify and enforce the UN convention, and in that way, how they will be helping kids everywhere. That's one way to go about it but you might have very different ideas. It's important that you say what you have to say in your own way.

Good Luck. Please let us know how its going, and send us your signed petitions. We will combine them with other kids' petitions and send them altogether to world leaders. IF we can help in any way, please holler.
