Child Marriage Is A Global Issue

With the rise of violent extremist groups such as Boko Haram in Nigeria and ISIS in the Middle East, horrible stories of young girls being kidnapped and forced to marry militants have made news headlines. But the problem of forced marriage is far more widespread than that. Forced marriage is a cultural practice that is found in a lot of countries. Forced marriage even occurs among immigrant groups in the United States and Europe. According to the International Center for Research on Women, one third of girls in the developing world marry before age 18, and one in nine are married before the age of 15. Many groups have now thought of new ways to combat child marriage. One is to get to both sides not just the girls side like usually done to understand the info they have, another is approaching leaders who usually insist on these traditions. What do you think of these new ideas? Child marriage is wrong lets find ways to help!
